Illawarra on Pointe Productions brought together some of the best local dancers, actors and musicians in this truly magical adaptation that was staged July 22nd- 24th 2016 at the Illawarra Performing Arts Centre in Wollongong. Choreographed by Cameron Zingel, it was the first time in the Illawarra that a complete ballet experience had been offered to the community, bringing together over 60 dancers and 40 musicians for a magical and unforgettable production.

 

Illawarra on Pointe Productions "The Nutcracker" featured a live orchestra to paint evocative musical pictures with Tchaikovsky’s enchanting score.

 

The Nutcracker ballet is based on E.T.A. Hoffman’s story The Nutcracker and the Mouse King. It tells the story of a young girl, Clara, who is given a magical Nutcracker by her Godfather at a family Christmas party. When the guests depart the party and everyone else is in bed, Clara returns to the living room where the Nutcracker springs to life and leads an army of toy soldiers in battle against an invading army of mice. Winning the battle against the Rat King and invading mice, the Nutcracker takes Clara on a magical journey bringing to life the many toys under the Christmas tree
