Media Release: Friday 10 April

A MESSAGE FROM OUR AD

Due to the current pandemic; the restrictions it places on gatherings and the need for all of us to play a part in keeping the community safe, the IOP production team have had to make the difficult decision to postpone our biannual ballet The Sorcerer’s Apprentice until 2021.

This is a big blow for our production team who have been working on the preparation of this production since 2018, for our cast made up of eighty phenomenal local dancers who had already begun rehearsals earlier this year, our guest choir- the energetic Out of the Blue Singers and our forty piece orchestra made up of local session musicians. As a company we recognise that it is a blow for our community that would have been enriched by this original production with a story about innocence, magic and wonder.

Though a blow for our team we are driven by the fact that we will be presenting this special ballet in 2021 July-August at the Illawarra Performing Arts Centre with all the same performers. Though delayed by a year the show will be staged.

If I can encourage the community to do anything through this period of uncertainty it is support the arts in whatever way you can. If you can continue your dance classes or your music lessons, though the concept of doing so via the internet may be a new and peculiar experience, do so and support those local studios working hard to churn out online content. If you can purchase a local artist’s music album do it. The investment you make in the arts today will help to ensure we have a thriving sector when we’re out of this pandemic. While you’re in isolation create, immerse and discover art and share it with your family and friends.

Stay safe, stay kind to one another and we look forward to seeing you all for more art soon.

Kind regards

Ryley Gillen and the IOP team
